Cell Cytometry and Microscopy Unit

Cell Cytometry and Microscopy Unit is located within the premises of Inbiomed started in the Summer of 2010. This unit allows in house and outside researchers and clinitians multiparametric flow cytometry analysis and cell sorting of selected cell populations based on mellecular phenotype. This unit counts with state of the art cell sorting equipment, magnetic cell separador, 2 flow cytometry analyzers and a confocal microscope.

Technology Support

Functional implementation of cell sorting started in May 2010 managed and executed exclusively by the unit dedicated staff. Analytical flow cytometry and Confocal Microscopy is operated on a user based manner for experienced users.

Training

The Cell Cytometry and Microscopy Unit offers continuos training for interested users in this technology as well as on-demand training, monographic courses and seminars, both for in house researchs and for the public. Detailed schedule of programmed activities will be available shortly.

Researchers interested in direct consulting for flow cytometry and/or cell sorting should contact the Unit Head.

Research

This unit is set as a technology service for research support to Inbiomed research programs and outside parties. As such it is focused on the continious implementation and optimization of new protocols and techniques that become available that may be relevant for stem cell research.

Equipment

  • Flow Cytometers:
    • FACScalibur (Becton Dickinson): Argon laser (488 nm) and laser dioide (635 nm) for simultaneous 4-color reading.
    • FACS Canto A (Becton Dickinson): Argon laser (488 nm) and laser dioide (635 nm) for simultaneous 6-color reading.
  • Cell Sorters:
    • FACSAria III (Becton Dickinson): Red laser (633 nm) and Blue laser (488 nm) with ACDU (Automatic Cell Deposition Unit) with 4-way simultaneous sorting.
